Ruth Ann Smith was born on May 17, 1939, in Garden City, Michigan. She was one of two daughters born from the union of Orin Smith and Evangeline (Arquette) Smith. Later in her life, she was employed as a food preparer at Douglas Food.

Ruth was a dedicated member of the Monroe Boat Club.  It was there along the shores of Lake Erie that she found much joy and solace in the tranquil waters. She cherished her time spent fishing, whether alone or in the company of friends, especially enjoying the thrill that came with baiting and catching walleye and perch.  She truly found peace and happiness on the open water.

An avid game enthusiast, Ruth could often be seen at any bingo hall across town. She had a knack for spotting winning patterns and thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow players. Euchre was another game close to Ruth's heart, and she often gathered with her dear friend Annie, as well as her daughter Carol and son-in-law Don, for friendly competitions filled with laughter and friendly banter.

Animals also held a special place in Ruth's life. From dogs to horses, and cats, she welcomed their companionship and cared for them with unwavering love. In fact, on her farm in Carleton, she once housed an astonishing fifty-two barn felines, providing them with a safe and nurturing home. Alongside her husband, she raised and trained standard breed horses, indulging in her passion for equestrianism.  She found joy in the presence of her faithful companion, Ziggy, a beloved cockapoo who brightened her days with his steadfast  love and loyalty.

Casino trips were a great source of entertainment for Ruth.  She reveled in the thrill of spinning the reels on her most sought-after slot machines. Firekeepers and Soaring Eagle Casinos were favorite destinations to try her luck and embrace the rush of the game.

Above all, Ruth's love for her children and grandchildren was immeasurable. She embraced every opportunity to spend time with them, creating enduring bonds and countless memories that will certainly live on in their hearts.
