Obituary of David Bruce Batdorf

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

David Bruce Batdorf was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 29, 1959. He was one of three children born to Dayton and Rita (Haas) Batdorf.   Dave graduated with the Class of 1977 from Central Catholic High School in Toledo.

On August 7, 1981, he wed the love of his life, the former Janice Gotha, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Temperance, Michigan.  The couple was blessed with two sons. Dave and Janice also welcomed foster children into their home.  A loving husband and hopeless romantic, on every anniversary, Dave presented his wife with a rose representing each year of their nuptials. The Batdorf family took many memorable trips together including vacations to the Bahamas, Florida, and Northern Michigan. Dave was an excellent provider for his family and had a long career as a meat and poultry sales representative.  He was employed at Weaver Poultry and later at Wolverine Packing before his medical retirement.

An avid golfer, Dave hit the links whenever he had the opportunity. He spent time at various golf courses in the area but was especially fond of Detwiler Golf Course in Toledo. Dave was also a hockey fan, having played in high school for the school team. He frequently tuned into sports on television to cheer on the Detroit Red Wings and Ohio State teams. Dave also enjoyed classic programs such as “The Andy Griffith Show” and “M*A*S*H”. Quiet and introverted, Dave had a deeply kind and caring soul. He devoted much of his life to caring for children with disabilities and lovingly took care of his son, Ian’s, every need. For many years the family participated in the Special Olympics.
