I will always remember all the times we visited Grandpa and he would take us to the shed in the back yard so we can watch the birds at his bird feeder. We would just sit and talk and joke around. He always had candy for the grandkids as well. I always raided the smarties jar and he always had Popsicles and ice cream bars at the ready. He definitely spoiled us grandkids as we grew up.

One of my earliest memories was when I was about 6 years old. My dad took me out to dinner, just the two of us, for a daddy-daughter day. I remember getting dressed up in my favorite pink dress with angel wing sleeves. He took me out to Sweden House for dinner. As a little girl I felt so special to be treated to a grown up event.

I love you so much grandpa!! I know you and grandma are together at last! I will cherish every moment I got with you. You always made sure there was almond joys and mounds for all of us kids. You ALWAYS had a pair of binoculars or a telescope for bird watching! Until we meet again Grandpa

Out of all the terrific and memorable moments with Uncle Sam, the one I remember best and the one that means the most to me was when my father died. My father was Rodney, Uncle Sam's younger brother. He died when I was only 19. I remember the funeral luncheon, and how I was crying and just so emotionally distraught. I felt empty and lost inside. Uncle Sam, even though he was in great pain too, spent a lot of time with me that afternoon consoling me. He spoke highly of my father, hugged me tightly, and not only told me everything was going to be okay, he told me how it was going to be okay. I'll never forget his words of comfort and how much they still mean to me to this day. Uncle Sam was a giver, and that day he gave me exactly what I needed for my grieving heart. I love you, Uncle Sam, and thank you for always loving me and my siblings like you did. I hope to one day thank you in heaven, and maybe pitch a horseshoe or two with you. May your soul rest in peace, and may God let his perpetual light shine upon you.
