Obituary of Judy Zukowski
Judith Elizabeth Signs was born on July 20, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan. She was one of four children born to the union of Kenneth and Gladys (Krey) Signs. Judy married the love of her life, Edward Zukowski on October 18, 1969, and together they were blessed with two sons.
Judy, as she was lovingly known, provided for her family as a homemaker for many years. When the boys were both in school, she continued her own studies obtaining her Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene from Owens Community College. With her degree in hand, she entered the dental field, and proudly helped put her two sons through college.
She was a wonderful listener, offering her undivided attention to anyone needing it. She was more than willing to share advice when requested, and her warmth and compassion showed through.
Judy was the ultimate host. She adored everything about cooking - from the planning, to shopping, prepping, to the actual cooking and presentation of the food. Nothing meant more to her than gathering her family around the table to share and enjoy a home cooked meal. She always made certain there was enough food for everyone. A gifted baker, Judy created many crowd-pleasing desserts like apple pies, pumpkin bars, or her secret recipe of crunchy jumbles cookies. Her goods were always baked with care and attention, and unique birthday cakes certainly brought a smile to the special someone she was celebrating.
Judy loved to play the piano; with Beethoven’s “Fur Elise” being a popular request from loved ones. When her fingers weren’t tickling the ivory, she enjoyed having them in the dirt. Annually, she was quite pleased by the results she had in her flower garden and especially with the roses.
Judy was a remarkable woman. She completed several half marathons including the Lake Erie Monroe and at the ripe age of sixty, the Detroit Half Marathon. In fact, she was very dedicated to the sport, devoting countless hours to training to ensure she could finish. Her athleticism also extended to her obtaining a Brown Belt in Sanchin Ryu Karate.
She had a youthful spirit and was always up for a dance, especially when it involved her grandchildren. Judy’s dancing was infectious, and her grandchildren would giggle and laugh as she twirled them around. The fun continued as they shared makeshift picnics of sorts in the sunroom.
