Obituary of Nancy Ann Giarola

Nancy Ann Giarola was born on August 29, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan. She was the eldest of three daughters born to Geno and Jean (Hureski) Giarola. Nancy was a graduate of Allen Park High School in Allen Park, Michigan.

A talented short order cook, Nancy was employed at various restaurants throughout the years.  She was a people person, truly loved by all who met her. As she sat on her front porch, many truck drivers would drive by honking and waving to say “hello”! Even the wonderful staff at the Medilodge of Monroe where she’d been residing were delighted in her company. Fiercely independent, Nancy never wanted anyone to worry about her, and her feisty personality was always on display. Along with Nancy’s unique personality came her sense of humor. She was always joking around to put a smile on your face. As an animal lover, she especially adored her cats. Nancy’s kind and caring soul was evident as she never hesitated to help anyone.

Nancy Ann Giarola, age 75, of Monroe, Michigan passed away peacefully at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital on Friday; March 10, 2023. Her passing was preceded by her parents; an infant daughter: Sara; a sister: Cathy Fricke; a nephew: Timothy Fricke; and beloved kitty cats: “Pirate” and “Luke”.

To cherish her memory, she leaves a sister: Sandra Giarola; four nieces: Michelle (Tony) Kinsey, Danielle (Julius) Fricke, Kelly (Neil) Fricke, and Stacey Fricke; one nephew: Steven Fricke; thirteen great nieces and nephews; two great-great nieces; one great-great nephew; and her best friend of almost twenty years: Toni of Tennessee who was also a wonderful help to Nancy; and two feline friends: “Lucy”, a Calico, and “Coco”, a Grey Tabby, both ten years old when she adopted them at the end of last Summer.

Friends may gather on Tuesday; March 21, 2023, from 10:00am until 11:00am at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Nancy’s Life will begin at 11:00am also at Merkle’s. Procession will follow to Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown, Michigan.
