Obituary of Laura Grace Cook
Laura Grace Cook was born on September 13, 1965, in Trenton, Michigan to the union of Francis and Helen (Dorris) Cook. She attended Airport Community Schools in Carleton, Michigan graduating with the Class of 1984. To continue her education, she enrolled in classes at Monroe County Community College.
Laura was employed at Monsanto Agrochemical Company for several years where she attended fire training school. She also worked for various restaurants including the infamous Kate’s Kitchen in Flat Rock, Michigan.
A Christian, Laura was a lifelong member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Flat Rock. She was proud to have earned her twelve-year coin from Alcoholics Anonymous. A social butterfly, she gained many close friends from her affiliation with AA. As a young woman, Laura enjoyed riding her motorcycle around town with her friend, Walt. She collected all manner of Harley Davidson memorabilia. Laura took every opportunity to kayak down the Huron River. When relaxing at home she was often streaming whatever movie piqued her interest or curled up with a book. Laura kept her home and yard in immaculate condition. She had a knack for decorating and everything had its place. She was fiercely independent and overcame many obstacles throughout her life. An extremely loving person, Laura had a soft spot in her heart for children and animals.
Laura Grace Cook, age 57, of Flat Rock, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday; March 11, 2023. Her passing was preceded by her father: Francis L. “Frank” Cook; paternal grandparents: Taylor and Grace Cook; maternal grandparents: Thomas and Laura Estelle Dorris; uncles: Roy Dorris, Julian Cook, Fred Cook, Clyde Johnson and Greg Goeken; aunts: Linda Dorris, Rose Cook, Helen Cook, and Dianne Dorris; cousins: Melissa Hall and Taylor Cook; and a beloved cat of fourteen years: “Harlee”.
To cherish her memory are her mother: Helen Cook-Anson; step-father: Ronald F. Anson; two brothers: Michael Cook, Jeffrey (Kim) Cook, a step-sister: Sherry (Orie) Ervin; three step-brothers: Ronald (Kelly) Anson, Thomas (Carmen) Anson, and Michael (Debbie) Anson; many nieces and nephews; aunts and uncle; cousins; and many friends too numerous to mention including: Walt Analovic, Wendy Wilson, and Kathy Smith; and feline friend: “Paws”, a five-month old kitten whom Laura adopted and welcomed into her loving home.
Friends may gather on Thursday; March 16, 2023 from 2:00pm until 7:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Laura will lie in state from 10:00am until the time of a Worship Service Celebrating Her Life at 11:00am on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25402 Arsenal Road, Flat Rock, Michigan 48134. Procession to Riverside Cemetery in South Rockwood, Michigan will follow.
