The Family of Shirley Jentzen posted a condolence
Friday, January 20, 2023
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Jentzen, the matriarch of our family and farm. She went to be with the Lord, peacefully, on January 17th, 2023. Leaving a husband, three sons, and many grand and great-grandchildren behind. A simply amazing woman she grew up poor on her parent’s farm during the WW2 era. They raised hogs, chickens, and vegetables to sell at the Eastern Market in Detroit throughout the 40s and 50s. Then marrying John Jentzen in 1961, they started a life and family together. While John worked away from home Shirley took care of things at home. Feeling something was missing from her life, Shirley decided to return to help her mother on their farm in the 1970s. Eventually, John and Shirley bought into the farm, with Shirley managing it and John keeping his job in town. Throughout the 1980s Shirley took the farm away from livestock, toward perennial flowers, a new love she fostered. Encroaching development in the later 1980s encouraged Shirley and her now family of five to move the farm south, to Monroe County. Once settled on the new property, greenhouse growing became the next challenge in her life and she tackled that head-on, just like every other challenge she faced. Please help us celebrate the life of Shirley A Jentzen. Wife, Mother, Grandma, and Farmer.
