Obituary of Cora B. Germain

Please share a memory of Cora to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Cora B. Reid was born on December 27, 1930 in Wayne, Michigan. She was one of eight children born to the union of Raymond H. and Henrietta Phylis (Barkume) Reid.  Cora attended River Rouge High School in River Rouge, Michigan, graduating with the class of 1948.

One year after high school on March 5, 1949, Cora married the love of her life, Robert Germain.   The couple was blessed with the birth of four children prior to his untimely passing in 1964 after fifteen years of marriage.   For more than twenty years, Cora worked in the housekeeping department at Mercy Hospital in Monroe, Michigan.   She retired in 1994.

Cora loved quilting and reading.  She quite often could be found curled up with a mystery novel from one of her favorite authors like Nevada Barr or Sue Grafton.   She also was fascinated with the writer, Steve Hamilton, who wrote mysteries about the State of Michigan.   Cora loved traveling, just to get away. Some of her favorite destinations included Frankenmuth and New Buffalo, Michigan, Hawaii, and Disney World in Florida.  She was an avid stamp collector, never missing an opportunity to add to her collection.   Cora loved baking Christmas cookies and was well known for her delicious “nut cups”.

Cora B. Germain, age 91 of Monroe, passed away at home on Thursday; December 22, 2022.   Her loving family was at her side, and she was under the care of Hospice of Michigan.  Her passing was preceded by her parents:  Raymond and Henrietta Reid; her husband:  Robert Germain; three sisters:  Jean, Beatrice, and Ramona; three brothers:  Edwin, Floyd, and Charles and her grandson:  Randy Lorimor in 2018.
