Obituary of J D Young

Please share a memory of J to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

J. D. Young was born on January 14, 1937 in Lewisville, Arkansas. He was one of nine children born to Tom and Lealo (Ford) Young. As a young man, Jerry moved to Monroe, Michigan. On June 14, 1971 he wed the former Nora Freelon. The couple enjoyed fifty-one years of marriage. A proud member of the United Auto Workers Union, Jerry was employed on the assembly line at Ford Motor Company for forty years before retiring in 2002.He valued a hard day’s work and always ensured his family was taken care of.

Not one to stay idle, after retirement, Jerry volunteered his time to build homes for Habitat for Humanity.   He also spent time collecting recyclable metals to scrap. Jerry was mechanically inclined and could fix just about anything. For many years, he enjoyed maintaining a small vegetable garden.   Jerry and his family traveled South to visit family members in Arkansas and Mississippi, often with the grandchildren in tow. They enjoyed sight-seeing along the way.

A devout Christian, Jerry attended Christian Life Center Church in Monroe.   He was a news junkie, always having the television tuned to CNN.   Jerry was very thoughtful and had an even keeled temperament.  A contemplative person, he often mulled over the simplest decision for days.
