He was one of four children born from the union of Martie Lawrence Britten, Sr. and Marva (Smith) Britten.  Martie began high school at Lansing Everett in Lansing, Michigan before transferring to Monroe High School.   He obtained his GED in 1976 from Monroe after being Honorably Discharged from the United States Army. He was very proud to be a veteran.

Martie often was seen with his four-legged companion a chihuahua/terrier/Jack Russell mixed wonder dog named “Sparki”.   He loved spending time with his girlfriend, Reba and together the couple enjoyed going out to eat at Sal’s Place Family Restaurant and El Maguey Café being preferred destinations.   They also visited their original meeting place the Moose Lodge, visiting friends, or vegging at home, watching old TV series like “Wagontrain” or the “Rifleman”.   Martie enjoyed karaoke and wasn’t afraid to pick up the mic and belt out the lyrics to his favorite country and bluegrass songs.
