Donald Joseph Gould was born in Detroit on July 8, 1929. He was the son of the late Joseph Gould and the late Pauline (Peters) Gould. Donald honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Donald married the love of his life, Eileen Krutty, on February 16, 1973 in Detroit. The Gould's would move to Monroe County, settling in the Carleton area. Donald was an extremely hard worker and spent many years supporting his family as a UAW, Tool and Die Maker for the Ford Motor Company employed at the Woodhaven Stamping Plant.
Donald was an amazing person. He was down to earth and very easy to talk to. He was dedicated to those he loved, sharing a smile with those around him. His free time was spent with family near.
Donald was an avid outdoorsman. He felt at home with nature, loved hunting, fishing, and boating. A member of the Carleton Sportsman's Club and the Monroe Gun and Pistol Club, Donald was very skilled with his hands, making his own tackle, and often creating his own ammo when hunting. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick Parish.
Donald Joseph Gould, age 85 of Carleton passed away peacefully at Mercy Memorial Hospital on Sunday, August 17, 2014. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by a brother.
To cherish his memory, Donald leaves his beloved wife: Eileen; three children: Paul (Denise) Gifford of Southgate, Julie (Steven) Sugarbaker of Carleton and Lynne Gebski of Fenton; two sisters: Mary Kelly of Coral Gables, Florida and Carol Matthews of Novi; seven grandchildren: Joseph (Mindy) Davis, Christy (Brian) Dankovcik, Shaun Davis, Shannon Davis, Jennifer (Chad) Godbout, Jami Davis and Greysen Gebski; fifteen great-grandchildren: Ryan, Tylor, Gage, Jadyn, Ashton, Shelby, Kaylie, Bridget, Owen, Ellie, Collin, Zack, Lyndsey, Ryleigh and Aubrey.
Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm, Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. He will lie in state from 9:00am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00am on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Divine Grace Parish (St. Patrick Catholic Church), 2996 West Labo, with Father John Dumas officiating. Procession will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe for entombment.
