Joseph "Joe" Francis Sawasky was born May 27, 1939, in Sault Ste Marie. He was one of seven children born from the union of the late John Sawasky and the late Alice (Brown) Sawasky. Joe graduated from Sault Ste Marie High School in 1957.
Joe married the love of his life, Carol Coveyou in 1961. In his early years, Joe supported his family as a tugboat captain which required the Proud Yooper to relocate to the Lower Peninsula. Joe also was employed for ten years for Price Brothers Dredging and eventually retired from Consumers Energy in 2006 after 30 years.
Joe was a perfectionist in everything he undertook. He was an avid gardener, a master repairman, an auction aficionado and an antique furniture restoration expert. Joe appreciated the outdoors hunting and fishing and enjoyed the company of his canine friends.
Joseph Francis Sawasky of Erie, passed away at 1:45pm on July 31st, 2014, after a brief illness, surrounded by his family at his home. His passing is preceded by his parents; one brother: Michael; and a granddaughter: Jenna.
To cherish his memory, Joe leaves his wife of 53 years, Carol; four sons: Joseph (Janis), Todd (Brenda), John (Maya) and Justin (Angela); three brothers: David, William, Richard and Francis; two sisters: Joan and Alice; and nine grandchildren.
To honor Joe's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, Erie 9156 Summit Street, Erie (734)848-5185.
