Rockie Allen Blair was born in Monroe on September 21, 1961. He was the son of the late Edward W. and late Mary K. (Thompson) Blair. Rockie was a Navy Brat as a child, moving to the Monroe area in 1976. He attended Jefferson High School.
Rockie married the love of his life Karen Shotwell on November 6, 1981 in Monroe, Michigan. From this union would come the birth of three children. With his outgoing and fun-loving personality, he was a perfect fit for his career choice as a DJ for over 25 years.
Rockie enjoyed spending time with his family especially taking them to county fairs and on vacations. His family fondly saw him as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Rockie was quite the social butterfly, hanging out with his friends and playing darts. Known as a Parrothead, Rockie loved listening to his favorite Jimmy Buffet songs while sporting his moves on the dance floor. Having a wild side, he willingly participated in many antics.
Rockie Allen Blair, age 52, of Flat Rock, Michigan passed away at his home with his loving family by his side. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by a sister Sherrie Lynn Bomia.
To cherish his memory, Rockie leaves his beloved wife of 32 years: Karen Blair; three children: Tia (Scott) Sampson of Monroe, Tanya (David) Coyle of Romulus, and Eric (Katie) Blair of Columbus; two brothers: Edward Blair of Monroe and Richard Shaffer of West Virginia; 10 grandchildren: Brandon, Shane, Haylie, Zachary, Austin, Dylon, Liam, Paul, Beccaann, Alex.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Friday, June 20, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe 48162 (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, June 21, 2014 with Pastor Sally Martin of Stewart Road Christian Ministries officiating. Cremation will follow through Southern Michigan Services.
