Sara Ann Hoppert, age 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2014 at her home. Her loving family was by her side. She was born on March 10, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Leander L. DeLoche and the late Sarah (Grimes) DeLoche. Sara was a 1949 graduate of Monroe High School. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics Education in 1953 from Michigan State University. She taught home economics for one year in Goodrich, Michigan. She later went to Wayne State University to get training and certification to teach the hearing impaired.
Sara married the love of her life, Dale F. Hoppert on June 26, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Monroe. They first lived in Ohio, started a family and then moved back to Michigan. Sara began teaching the hearing impaired in Ferndale Public Schools and retired in 1986 with more than 23 years of service.
A wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, Sara devoted her life to her family. Some of her favorite activities throughout the years were cooking, sewing, camping, traveling, playing cards, quilting and spending time with her family. She loved life and everyone who came into contact with her was blessed. She made the best of every situation and consistently had a positive outlook on life. She had a smile that could light up a room and she was always ready to laugh and joke. The family home was a gathering spot for relatives and friends and Sara made sure that everyone felt at home and loved. By far her most precious times were those spent with her grandson, Jake, the light of her life.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two adoring children, Sharon S. Hoppert of Monroe and Gerald D. Hoppert of Monroe; a loving and devoted grandson, Jake J. Hoppert of Ann Arbor; and a beloved sister, Colleen C. Kirtland of Monroe. She also has many loving nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Her passing was preceded by her precious husband, Dale F. Hoppert, her dear parents and a beloved brother, Thomas L. DeLoche.
