Obituary of David Foley
Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Charles Foley was born in Detroit on March 4, 1961. He was the middle child from the union of the late Cleo Foley and Wanda (Wisehart) Foley. Dave began working alongside his father, a handyman, at the age of 12 learning many lifelong skills. He graduated with the Class of 1979 from Henry Ford High School.
Dave married the love of his life the former Brenda Nelson on October 23, 1980 at the Pridemore Tabernacle in Detroit. He enlisted in the United States Army serving honorably from 1980-1986, taking courses in correspondence and serving as a K-9 officer in the military police. After his discharge he attended the Detroit Academy walking the beat in the Cass Corridor for three years. In 1990, Dave took employment with the City of Monroe Police Department. In 2001, he began providing K-9 service to the community with his partner Colonel and currently served with Justice.
A devout Christian, Dave worked hard and led by example. He loved police work and earned the respect of his community and fellow officers due to his willingness to take the time to counsel others.
Dave loved spending time with his family. They enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, biking, but more than anything worshipping at church together. Dave used his gift of woodworking to finish much of the inside of the church sanctuary at Lewis Avenue Baptist Church where he attended. He enjoyed entertaining others by telling jokes and sharing stories about his work experiences.
David age 53 of Monroe passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 25, 2014. In addition to his father his passing was preceded by his partner: Colonel.
