Martha Ann Lyell was born on December 2, 1938 in Lyle, Tennessee. She was one of five children born from the union of the late Earl Raymond and Thelma (Whited) Lyell. Martha graduated from Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte.
She married John Wilson on April 27, 1973. Martha would take care of her family as a homemaker and together the couple would raise eight children. Her children were her life, and Martha had few hobbies since her activities always revolved around them. Martha was extremely loving and compassionate, and she constantly cared for the neighborhood children. Martha loved to bake cakes. She enjoyed traveling Up North and Port Austin, Michigan was one of her favorite destinations.
Martha Ann (Lyell) Wilson, age 76, of Newport passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Medilodge of Monroe. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by a sister: Kathryn and two brothers: John and Earl.
To cherish her memory she leaves her loving husband: John Wilson; Children: Mike (Lisa) Lyell of Southgate, Lynn (Rick) Rotole of Livonia, Linda (John) Moomey of Newport, Cindy (Tom) Collins of Newport, Scott (Holly) Sturgeon of Lincoln Park, Barry Sturgeon of Newport, John Wilson of Belleville, and Heather Wilson of Brownstown; one brother: Steve (Kathy) Lyell of Lincoln Park; seventeen grandchildren: Jason, Matthew, Michael, Andrew, Ryan, Angela, Joe, Gayle, Michelle, Kathryn, Jessica, Scotty, Sean, Amanda, Jacob, Nathan and Elizabeth; eleven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place on Sunday, May 25, 2014 also at Merkle's. Cremation will follow with Southern Michigan Services in Livonia, Michigan.
