Gerald Drinkert

Obituary of Gerald Drinkert

Gerald Drinkert was born on July 15, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan.   He was the son of Gerald Drinkert and Eleanor (Dekarske) Drinkert.   He attended classes and graduated with the class of 1962 from Taylor Center High School.

Gerald married the love of his life, the former Michele Lewis, on September 19, 1964.   The couple was blessed with the birth of one daughter.   To provide for his family, Gerald took employment as a carpenter, working for the Carpenter’s Union #387 in Monroe.   He continued in this position for many years until his retirement in 2003.

Early in their relationship and at the beginning of their marriage, Gerald and Michele, traveled the country to take in the sights of our great nation.   Gerald was an avid golfer.   He hit the links all over Michigan, however, his course of preference was Monroe’s very own, Raisin River Golf Course.   Gerald often lamented about the excellent care and beautiful landscaping.   To say he was disappointed when the course closed for good, was an understatement.

Gerald was a “Jack of all trades”.   In fact, one month ago, he replaced the furnace in his home when it failed to operate.   Without any formal training, Gerald tinkered on cars to fix them, especially for his family.   His labor of love was an antique car he was in the process of restoring.   When anyone inquired about what it was, he let them know, a “33, three window coupe”.   Gerald had even assisted in building the addition on his daughter’s home.

George Drinkert, age 77, of Monroe passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday; April 14, 2022.   His passing was preceded by both of his parents; three sisters; and two brothers.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of fifty-seven years: Michele; one daughter: Debbie (Mark) DeBruyne; and one sister: Mae of Florida.

No public services have been planned at this time.   Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Cremation will take place through Covenant Cremation of Erie.
