Obituary of Lloyd Yoas

Lloyd was born on December 21, 1928 to the late Russell Charles and Marie (Shippee) Yoas. Lloyd graduated in 1946 from Monroe High School. He served honorably in the Army National Guard for twenty-four years. Lloyd married Margaret and together they raised three children. He worked as a salesman for over thirty-five years at the Commerce Paper Company retiring in 1995. Lloyd married Alice Vetter-Miller on December 21, 1993 in Ohio. Grouch was a hard worker and led an active lifestyle. He bowled in Flat Rock and a senior league in Monroe. He regularly played cards with the Ash Township and Berlin Township Seniors. Lloyd and Alice enjoyed traveling and playing the slots at area casinos. Grouch was an avid Detroit Red Wing and Tiger fan. He enjoyed puzzle books and vegetable gardening harvesting his own great sauerkraut. Lloyd was a good, loving family man. Well-known and respected throughout the community and at Newport Community Church, Lloyd served as an Elder and often attended the church meetings. He could be counted on to greet members and visiting guests at worship. Lloyd, age 85 of Carleton passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by his first wife: Margaret; and four brothers: Charles, Wayne, Lowell, and Lynn. To cherish his memory Lloyd leaves his wife of twenty years: Alice of Carleton; three children: Dennis (Grace) Yoas of Monroe, Maria Bussell of Georgia, and Cynthia Yoas of Kentucky; five stepchildren: Eric (Judy) Miller of California and David Miller of Carleton; three step daughters: Ann (Steven) Leffler of Kentucky, Laura (Scott) Swiercz of Flat Rock, and Catherine (Scott) Kendrick of Carleton; six siblings: Glenn (Arlene) Yoas, Ronald Yoas, and Bruce Yoas both of Newport, Loraine (Milt) LaVigne of Newport, Colleen Cook of Florida, and Margaret (John) Kuzych of Maybee; eighteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and a few great-great grandchildren. Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm; Friday, April 4, 2014 and from 1:00pm until a Celebration of His Life at 3:00pm; Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. Pastor Max Schuster will officiate. Private burial will be at Roselawn. Memorials are suggested to Newport Community Church or VFW Post 1138.
