Obituary of Melody Ann Ferris
Melody Ann Young was born on January 20, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan. She was one of two daughters born from the union of Charles and Bertha (Vigue) Young. After graduating from John F. Kennedy High School, Melody would enroll in college courses to study Art. Melody took a position with Mercy Memorial Hospital for over twenty years before taking a job at the former Perry Drugstore which then became Rite Aid.
Melody kept herself busy. She spent her free time each year creating beautiful handmade crafts which she in turn would gift to her family and friends. These pieces quickly became treasured keepsakes for the recipients. Melody dabbled in all forms of crafting from crocheting, to sewing to quilting, to painting, and even stained glass. As a talented seamstress she created many wedding and prom dresses. In fact, on more than one occasion she deconstructed a store-bought dress just to reassemble it into something perfect.
Above anything, Melody loved her family. She enjoyed taking her aunt Ruth and her children out fishing on the boat for the day. She especially treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. She made sure she knew what each grandchild and great grandchild held their interests so she could carry a conversation with each of them. Melody always looked forward to hosting “overnight slumber parties”. During these fun-filled adventures, Melody, would make popcorn for all to enjoy while watching a movie and she would also plan for each attendee to make a craft to take home to their parents. When morning came, Melody prepared a big breakfast for all of the children before calling their parents to come and collect them. Equipped with a big and giving heart, Melody welcomed all the neighborhood children to her home as if they were part of her family. She would open her doors to anyone who needed a place to stay.
