Obituary of Ruth Ann Carpenter
Ruth Ann Buck was born on January 4, 1949 in Tecumseh, Michigan. She was the daughter of Fredrick M. Buck and Dovie L. (Payton) Fromm. A longtime resident of Dundee, Michigan, Ruth attended Dundee High School. On July 17, 1965 she wed Robert J. Carpenter Jr. at St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee. They were blessed with three children, and enjoyed fifty-six years of marriage. As a homemaker, Ruth dedicated her life to caring for her home and family.
Ruth was proud to have coached little league softball for many years. Both of her daughters were members of her “Orioles” team, and she never missed cheering on all of her grandchildren from the sidelines of their sporting events. Ruth enjoyed participating in bowling leagues, playing Bunko with friends, and trying her luck on the slots at the casino. Ruth’s involvement allowed her to develop many long-lasting friendships, and it seemed that everyone in the area knew her.
Lovingly known as “Grandma RuRu”, Ruth babysat many children in the community, including her own grandchildren. They were the light of her life, to spoil and treasure. More than anything else, Ruth loved spending time with her family.
Ruth Ann Carpenter, age 73, of Dundee, Michigan passed away peacefully on Monday, February 7, 2022. Her passing was preceded by her father: Fredrick M. Buck; mother: Dovie L. Fromm; sisters: Frances Steele and Violet Gruber; and brothers: James Steele and Lawrence Buck.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband: Robert J. Carpenter Jr.; children: Judith K. Funchion, Steven J. (Kristine) Carpenter, and Christine A. (Duane) Bruckner; grandchildren: Brookelynn Funchion, Mikeal (Rachel) Funchion, Laurynn Funchion, Megan Carpenter, Andrew Carpenter, Taylor Carpenter, Paige Carpenter, Hunter Bruckner, Jacob Bruckner, and Hayden Bruckner; great grandson: Layton Mills; brothers: Charlie (Pat) Fromm and Jerry (Debbie) Fromm; and cherished friends: Margaret Green, Patsy Prajzner, Kay Daghlian, and Nancy Hoffman.
Friends may gather on Tuesday; February 15, 2022 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, Dundee, 297 Tecumseh Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131, (734) 529-3156. A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held at 1:00pm, also at Merkle’s, followed by a procession to Whiteford Union Cemetery in Ottawa Lake, Michigan.
