Obituary of Guy Douglas Couturier

Guy Douglas Couturier was born in Dearborn, Michigan on October 5, 1953.   Lovingly known by his family as Doug, he was the second oldest of five children born from the union of Lee Roy Couturier and Emma Lucille (Kolarik) Couturier.

Guy graduated from St. Mary’s High School, where he would play football and wear what would become his favorite #35 jersey, in Wayne, Michigan in 1971.   He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit.   He worked as a Civilian Engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio his entire career until he retired in 2010.   Guy was extremely intelligent and during his employment he obtained two chip pattens.  After he retired, he moved back to Michigan to be closer to family. Guy was generous and kind and he was sure to be active in the lives of his family and friends.

He was a devout Catholic and belonged to St. Charles Borromeo Parish where he also lectured.

A master craftsman in woodworking he shared that love and talent with his family and friends through his many gifts including crucifixes, clocks, toyboxes, ornaments, and furniture.   He loved the outdoors, camping and hiking.   He recently went hiking in Hocking Hills and even tackled ziplining for the first time.   Guy continued to work on the family’s cherry farm every summer and Christmas tree farm each winter in Leelanau up until this past season in December.

Guy loved the sports of Track and Field and Basketball.  He coached at Carroll High School, Beaver Creek, Ohio for twenty-three years.   He also coached Track and Field at St. Mary Catholic Central, Monroe, Michigan for almost ten years.   He loved being a statistician for the athletes and working to help them progress.   He was well-loved by parents and student-athletes alike.

Guy had an entire room filled with games and puzzles and was a fierce competitor.   The more challenging the puzzle the better.   He held annual Halloween and Murder Mystery parties for loved ones.   He also spent countless hours on the family’s genealogy.

Guy Douglas “Doug” Couturier, age 68, of Newport passed away at home unexpectedly on February 6, 2022.   His passing was preceded by his parents.   To cherish his memory he leaves two sisters:  Margaret Ann "Peggy" Couturier of Monroe and Debra Leigh (Richard) Lake of Canton; two brothers:  Jeffrey William (Jennifer) Couturier of Carleton and Neil Thomas Couturier (Robert Mason) of Chicago; eighteen nieces and nephews; and fifteen great nieces and nephews.
