Obituary of Nancy Geraldine Sloan

Nancy Geraldine Craft was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 18, 1939.   She was the eldest of four daughters born from the union of Bernard Craft and Constance (Czischke) Craft.   She was baptized, confirmed, and educated at Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Monroe.   She then attended Monroe High School graduating with the Class of 1957.

Nancy was blessed with five children of her own.   She married Lowell Dennis Sloan on October 22, 1977 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe.   The couple had a beautiful relationship and cherished the time they spent with each other.   Faith was always a mainstay in Nancy’s life.  Wherever she and Dennis lived they were sure to find a church home, Trinity in Monroe, St. Peter in Petersburg, and St. Paul’s in Hillsdale.   The couple loved to travel and West Virginia was a favorite destination for many years.

Nancy was employed by the Jefferson School District as the high school Cafeteria Manager retiring after twenty-five years of faithful service.   She began her career for the schools working as a Playground Aide then took a position as a cafeteria helper before finally becoming the manager.   During her career she worked at several building in addition to the high school including Hurd Road and Sodt Elementary Schools.

Nancy loved to play Euchre and visit the casino to try her hand at a little gambling on the slot machines.   She loved to watch sports and go to sports events.   She was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers.   She was generous and kind with all of her own resources.   She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed supporting them at all of their events as well.  

Nancy Geraldine Sloan, age 82, of Deerfield passed away at 11:16pm on Friday; January 29, 2022 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.   Her passing was preceded by her parents and two sons:  Michael Fountain and Robert Fountain Jr.

To cherish her memory she leaves her beloved husband of forty-four years:  Lowell “Dennis” Sloan of Deerfield; one son:  Patrick Fountain of Adrian; two daughters:  Debra (Jim) Pfeifer of Ottawa Lake and Tammy (Bud) Warner of Deerfield; three sisters:  Beverly Lake, Arlyne Balog, and Karen Walerius; eight cherished grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Friends may gather from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday; February 4, 2022 at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070.   A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 10:00am on Saturday; February 5, 2022 also at Merkle’s with Pastor Daniel Potts of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.   Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle.   A Celebration of Life will be held at Dennis home in the Spring when friends and family can enjoy each other’s company and euchre will be played.
