Obituary of Dennis Frank Souva

Dennis Frank Souva was born on July 27, 1942 in Monroe, Michigan.   He was one of four children born to Adolphus Frank and Dolores Catherine (Cronenwett) Souva.   Dennis was a 1961 graduate of Monroe High School.

On February 8, 1964, Dennis, wed the former Joyce Atkinson at St. Mary Catholic Church in Monroe.   The couple would enjoy fifty-seven years of marriage and were blessed with two sons and two daughters.   Dennis supported his family as a gifted carpenter and member of the Michigan Carpenters Union Local 687.   He retired in 1995.

Dennis was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1266 in Monroe. He also belonged to the Monroe Area Street Rods group and enjoyed showcasing his 1932 Ford Sedan, 1932 Ford Coupe, and 1957 Chevy Belair at classic car shows. Dennis enjoyed watching John Wayne Westerns and even raised horses himself for a time, participating in pony pulls at the County Fair.   Just about every Monday, Dennis and his wife hosted a party to play euchre, cribbage, poker, pinochle, and dominos with their friends and family.   A happy go-lucky person, Dennis made the most of his time, simply, he wanted to have a good time and he did.

Dennis Frank Souva, age 79, of Monroe, Michigan passed away peacefully on Sunday; September 5, 2021.   His passing was preceded by his parents Adolphus and Dolores,  sister: Judith Cristler; grandmother: Mable Cronenwett whom he was especially close to and lovingly referred to as “granny”; father and mother-in-law:  Roy and Viola Atkinson; and many aunts and uncles.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife:  Joyce; daughters: Tammie (Scott) Glasgow and Lonnie (Fredrick) Horne; sons: Kurtis (Teresa) Souva and Eric (Kim) Souva; sister: Susan (John) McGorray; brother: David (Denise) Souva; grandchildren: Joshua Souva, Shelby (Michael) Miller, Megan, Payton, Hannah, and Heaven Souva, Samantha Cardamone, Tyler (Scout) and McKayla Kleinert, Abigail and Freddie Horne, and Greyson, Evan, and Brock Souva; great grandson: Charlie Souva; and close friends: Gene (Carol) Souva, Fritz (Judy) Sype, and Jim (Kaye) Wiseman.

Friends may gather on Wednesday; September 8, 2021 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185.   A Celebration of His Life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday; September 9, 2021 at Merkles.   Procession to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle will follow.
