Obituary of Carol Jean Pentercs
Carol Jean Snell was born on August 17, 1941, in Milan, Michigan. She was the daughter of Jay and Lavella (Miller) Snell. Carol attended the Dundee Adult Ed program graduating with a High School Diploma in 1984. On January 10, 1959, at the London United Methodist Church, Carol married Andrew Pentercs, whom she met in the 5th grade. They were married for 62 years at the time of her passing.
Carol would be blessed with two wonderful daughters, Debbra and Lynn, whom she loved with all of her heart. She was a faithful member of the Dundee United Methodist Church. She worked at Fairview Nursing home as a nurse’s aide from the mid 60’s to 70’s and then worked for Wolverine Plastics for 19 years. Most recently, Carol had worked as a housekeeper for Beaches Nursing Home, retiring in 2003 after 20 years of employment.
Carol was a very active mother, grandmother, great grandmother and would babysit several local children when her children were young. She was a great cook and often baked donut cakes for her grandchildren’s birthdays consisting of chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and rainbow sprinkles. She learned how to make her mother-in-law’s Hungarian recipes that she was very proud of to pass them on to her daughters and grandchildren. Carol loved to be outdoors with her family and was an avid hunter, fisher, and camper. She loved to stay at the family cabin in Ocqueoc, Michigan where she often took the grandkids on extended vacations.
Carol was famous for her bunny drawing that adorned every card or note she sent anyone. She loved the smell of gardenias, lilacs, the color purple, and the red geraniums that covered her porch. She loved listening to Patsy Cline, and you would often hear her and her grandkids singing it as they cleaned the house. She was known to have the best sledding hill in town and kept hats and sleds on her back porch for anyone who used her sledding hill and would make hot chocolate for the neighborhood. She was extremely proud of all of her grandkids and great grandkids. She was the number one campaigner for her granddaughter, Andrea Hickey, when she was elected Dundee Village President and watched every meeting. She picked up using her iPad quickly to follow her family on Facebook. She ended almost every comment she made on Facebook she made with “Love”.
