Please share a memory of Wilma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Known to all as, Lucy, she retired after twenty-five years of service to Wyandotte Schools Custodial Staff. Her journey began in Hohenwald, Tennessee as one of six siblings born to Escar and Laura Estelle Barber. She graduated with honors and moved to Michigan as the young bride of Donald Staggs. Lucy raised three children: Terry of Erie, Michigan, Connie (Sid) Carpenter of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Donna Lynn (1956-1957). She was Grandma Lucy to Rachel, Claudia, and Matthew Carpenter (1994-2000). Lucy was generous to a fault with her time, talents, and funds. She cherished the friendship of her loyal and kind-hearted "7Th Street Neighbors". She embraced her favorite scripture "…Love the Lord with all your heart and soul and love your neighbors as yourself". The family is eternally grateful to their devotion. Consistent in her faith, Lucy, was devoted to her church family at Gateway Church of Christ. Her legacy of generosity will live on in those that loved her. Lucy is survived by her children and grandchildren, sisters: Betty (Ken) Evans, Mina Patterson, and brother: Jerry (Judy) Barber. A private memorial service will be scheduled at a future date. Merkle Funeral Service was entrusted with her arrangements (734) 848-5185. www.merklefs.com.
