Obituary of Michael Paul Oberly
Michael Paul Oberly was born on February 9, 1958, in Union Town, Pennsylvania. He was one of five children born from the union of Edward and Evelyn (Budner) Oberly. When Michael was twelve years old, his family packed up their home and made their way to Dundee, Michigan.
Michael would meet the former Ellen Bacome and the couple would eventually tie the knot on May 24, 1996. When he was not hauling animals for the Oberly family farm, he could often be seen floating a bobber in the water with his two greatest friends: Pat and Scott. The trio would mostly make trips to Hartland, but they weren’t too proud to fish on any body of water in between. Born into a farming family, Michael had a green thumb himself. Annually he planted a vegetable garden and especially treasured the times he could pick asparagus with his friends and family.
Michael was known to many people as “Mike McGuyver” because he had the innate ability to fix just about anything. He was the go-to for anyone that needed a hand no matter where or when.
One of Michael’s many talents was making homemade tacos. His Christmas spread included enough tacos for each guest to have ten themselves. He often paired the taco making with a few shots of tequila.
Michael was very involved in the Monroe County 4-H Club and at the county fairgrounds where his daughter showed pigs. He was her biggest supporter in all that she did. He also valued being part of the Derby in Adrian taking part in the figure eight and truck derbies.
Michael Paul Oberly, age 63, of Dundee, passed away at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital on Sunday; July 11, 2021. His passing was preceded by his parents; a sister: Michelle Oberly; and cousins: Janet Hall and Stanley Chlebek.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of twenty-five years: Ellen; two children: Michael Duane Oberly and Isabella Oberly; siblings: Edward Oberly (Tonya), Mark Oberly (Teresa) and Ronald Oberly two nieces; two nephews; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will truly be missed by all who crossed his path in life.
