Obituary of Thomas Garcia DeMiro

Thomas Garcia DeMiro was born on February 23, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan. Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1963 to 1970. He was stationed in Saigon, Pleiku, Kontum, Long Bien, and Nhatrang Vietnam between 1968 and 1969.

Tom was a modern, renaissance man. He was employed by General Motors as the head of security for thirty years, before retiring in 2001, and a member of United Auto Workers Local 735.   Tom was also a licensed private investigator, ordained minister, and paralegal.

A true cinephile, Tom had a deep admiration for classic films. His all-time favorite was the 1959 epic drama Ben-Hur. He ensured his son developed an appreciation for the movie by watching it with him beginning at the young age of four. Together, they regularly took in spaghetti westerns such as The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, Biblical classics like The Ten Commandments, and modern action movies: Terminator, Predator, and RoboCop. The pair also had a parallel affection for the scores of these films and their composers. A classically trained pianist, Tom began taking lessons as a child. If he wasn’t watching movies, Tom was tuned into the American Heroes Channel, taking in seemingly every World War II documentary ever made.

A devoted man of God, Thomas frequently read his Bible.   He was a mentor to many people and touched their lives through his ministry. Tom visited prison facilities to share the teachings of Jesus and, by the hand of God, set many people’s spirits free. More recently, he used Facebook groups as a tool to reach out to those in need of salvation.

Thomas Garcia DeMiro, age 78, of Newport, Michigan passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021. His passing was preceded by his parents.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his loving wife of five years: Gina Antonietta (Cannova) DeMiro whom he affectionately referred to as “Abishag”; his children: Måchiësté DeMiro, Dante DeMiro, and Tara Jackson; six grandchildren; and two canine companions, Pekingese pups: “Tywin” and “Tyrion”.
