Obituary of John David Noland Sr.

John David Noland was born on July 5, 1946 in Monroe, Michigan to Shirley Noland.   He attended St. Mary Catholic Central High School in Monroe.   At the age of nineteen, John, joined the United States Marine Corp and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.  He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal for his honorable service.   Shortly after his return, he wed Gloria Cowen. They enjoyed fifty-one years of marriage and were blessed with four sons and a baby daughter.

John was a “jack of all trades” and held many positions over the course of his working life. He ended his career as a plant manager at B & M Industries, retiring in 2006.  John enjoyed attending classic car shows, hoping to spot his dream car: a 1968 Buick Grand Sport. However, it was his brand new 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle that first caught Gloria’s attention. He tried to teach her to drive a manual transmission to no avail, but they enjoyed many laughs during the lesson. A football and baseball fan, John enjoyed watching the Detroit teams on television and attending Tigers games with his son. When his children were young, he coached little league baseball with Monroe City Parks and Recreation.

John David Noland Sr., age 74, of Monroe, Michigan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.   His passing was preceded by his mother.
