Obituary of Harold Jewell

Harold Sidney Jewell was born in Jewell Valley, Virginia on February 2, 1945. He was the youngest of fifteen children born to the late Henry Columbus Jewell and Bertha (Pruitt) Jewell. He attended Lincoln School later earning his GED. Harold married the former Carolyn Laney in 1962, and the couple had four children. He was married by Pastor Swank to Patricia Clements on October 27, 1978 at the Stewart Road Church of God. He was a member of the Pipefitters Local 671 for forty-four years retiring in 1997. Harold was a rock to his family, always positive and uplifting. He was the glue that held them together throughout the years. Harold enjoyed life to the fullest, not placing much emphasis on worldly possessions. He never said a cross word about anyone. Harold was a great husband, an awesome dad and a good friend. He cherished the time he spent with all his grandchildren. Two of Harold's favorite pastimes were making homemade wine and cutting wood. He loved sports; was an avid Tiger fan, watching football, golfing, and fishing. Harold Sr., age 69 of Montgomery, Michigan, passed away at 1:45am; Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Hillsdale Community Health Center. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by eleven siblings: Beulah, Kemper, Mack, Dewey, Henry Columbus, Etter, Daisy, Brit, Joe, Mable, and Dorothy. To cherish his memory, Harold leaves a beloved wife of thirty-five years: Patricia of Montgomery; three sons: Harold Jr. of Muskegon, Troy (Billie Dawn) of Monroe, and Michael (Julie) of Petersburg; two daughters: Charlotte (Gary) Lewis of Jerome and Jennifer (Brian) Balk of Newport; two sisters: Mary York of Carleton and Gay (James) Smith of Wytheville, Virginia; one brother: Curtis (Jeri) Jewell of Vulcan, Michigan; eighteen grandchildren: Jacqueline, Tiffany, Alyssa, Thomas, Cosby, Jimmy Lee, Kyle, Kaleigh, Chellsie, Samantha, Kenley, Brayden, Crystal, Katie, Brad, Drake, Anne Marie, and Vai; and eight great-grandchildren: Alivia, Aviyah, Avery, Emma, Madison, Kylee, Jaedyn, and Emma. Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734)384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am on Friday, March 7, 2014 also at Merkle's with Reverend Fred Swank Sr. officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn.
