Obituary of Linda Lee Suttles
Linda Lee Mayes was born in Monroe, Michigan on December 29, 1948. She was the oldest of two girls born from the union of the late George Lee Mayes and the late Betty (Dushane) Mayes. She attended Jefferson Schools graduating from Jefferson High School with the Class of 1968.
Growing up in a home where both parents worked, Linda, became a sort-of surrogate mother to her sister Paula twelve years her junior. They had a special lifelong bond. Linda would meet her future husband, Jimmy “Jim” Suttles, while cruising the strip. They were joined in marriage by the Reverend Hopper on February 4, 1972 at Grape Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe.
For ten years, Linda, was employed by All-State Medical Placement. In 1986, she and Jimmy began purchasing rental properties. Together they owned and operated numerous properties with Linda managing the day-to-day operations and taking care of the bookkeeping. Jim served as the handyman at one point maintaining thirteen properties although recently, they had reduced their operation to eight locations.
Linda enjoyed playing Bunco for more than twenty-five years. She was also an avid bowler participating in Monday night leagues at Monroe Sports Center. She and Jim began traveling shortly after marriage. They loved to camp in all forms, tent, pop-up, motorhome, and trailer visiting every state but Alaska and even Mexico and Canada.
Linda Lee Suttles, age 72, of LaSalle a lifelong Monroe County resident passed away peacefully under hospice care on Thursday; May 20, 2021 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. Her passing was preceded by her parents.
To cherish her memory, Linda, leaves her husband: Jimmy “Jim” Suttles of LaSalle; one loving son: Scott Suttles of Monroe; her beloved sister: Paula Gibson-Lange (Gary Lange) of Monroe; a beloved niece: Jennifer Crumm of Monroe; and her nephew: David Lee Gibson of Monroe.
Friends may gather from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday; May 24, 2021 at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. A Worship Service Celebrating Her Life will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday; May 25, 2021 also at Merkle’s with Pastor Tim Iocoangeli of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for entombment at the Resurrection Mausoleum.
