Obituary of Mark LaVoy

Please share a memory of Mark to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mark David LaVoy was born in Erie on November 9, 1934. He was one of seven children born from the union of the late Curtis and Irene (Briskey) LaVoy. Mark was a graduate of Central Catholic and served honorably in the United States Army. He married his true love, the former Mary Louise Germani, in Monroe on October 30, 1965. For thirty-two years, Mark supported his family as a truck driver for Jones Transfer, retiring in 1992. His true passion, however, was that of farming. It was not just a job, but a way of life. Even through his illness, Mark worked his 100 acre farm by himself. His strong work ethic not only provided for his family's needs, but demonstrated his unwavering morality and integrity. Mark stood for God, Country, and Dutch apple pie. Mark had a great deal of respect for others and was a true gentleman. Nothing mattered more to Mark than his love of family and his faith in Christ. Living life to the fullest was evident by his love of laughter, singing, and dancing. Mark's constant joking and sarcasm led to there never being a dull moment in his presence. He was loyal to his select group of friends and enjoyed playing Pinochle, pool, horseshoes and corn hole with them. He also enjoyed reading. Mark David LaVoy, age 79 of Temperance, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Ebeid Hospice Residence. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by a sister: Maxine LaVoy; two brothers-in-law: Wesley Cousino and Henry Tietjen. To cherish his memory, Mark leaves his wife: Mary Lou; two sons and their familes: Loren (Ann), Alyssa, Austin and Aricka LaVoy and Lee (Shari) , Adrienne and Avery LaVoy; a daughter and her family: Lori (Drew), Chase and Brock Lindecker; five sisters: JoAnn Cousino, Marsha Tietjen, Donna (Bill) McDonagh, Mary (Steve) Pompos, and Janice Droz. Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service; 9156 Summit Street (734) 848-5185. He will lie in state at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2214 Manhattan Street from 11:00am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 12:00pm on Saturday, March 1.
