Obituary of Ruth Helen Day
Ruth Helen Bruck was born on March 6, 1934 at home in Carleton, on what is now a Centennial Farm. She was one of five children born from the union of William and Appolonia (Wolf) Bruck. She would attend St. Mary’s Academy in Monroe.
In 1951, Ruth, married the man who had her heart, William Day. The couple was wed by the Justice of the Peace in Monroe later renewing their vows in 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maybee. Together they would share in the birth of five children.
Ruth worked as a mail carrier for the United Stated Postal Service for thirty years. She retired in 1992. Ruth was a member of the Rural Carriers Association Union, Carleton Veterans of Foreign Wars 4093 Auxillary, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 66, the Carleton Seniors, and the Berlin Seniors.
Ruth enjoyed visiting the casino and playing Euchre with friends and was known for her joke telling and pulling pranks. Her storytelling was never so evident as in her own journal account of a three-week trip out West with her sister, Loretta and friend Dolores Mell. They each kept notes but Ruth’s account was the most outrageous.
Ruth liked to spend time motorhome camping in Northern Michigan where they would have fish fry’s. She also filling her down time by watching her favorite television game shows. Through it all, her top priority was being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
