Obituary of Iva Joyce Wood
Iva Joyce Taylor was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 19, 1948. She was one of five children born from the union of the late Charles and Iva (Cantrell) Taylor. She grew up in Detroit where she attended Chadsey High School.
On July 11, 1969, she married the late Garry Wood. The newlyweds enjoyed each other’s company and often stayed home to play card games. They would be blessed with four children.
Although, Iva, was more of a homebody, she loved finding hidden gems at garage sales and going out to play Bingo with her friends. Playing games was one her favorite past times, with Pinnacle Double Deck being her top choice, and Yahtzee coming in a close second. In her younger years, she showed off her bowling skills participating in leagues in Plymouth, Michigan.
Iva was not one to cook, yet she mastered the art of making biscuits and gravy. Her family would jokingly say that she was better at holding a recipe than she was at following one and she was a great cook when she would drain the grease. Iva of course would nod in agreement and smile. She passed her great sense of humor and wittiness down to her children. Family gatherings were always full of jokes and laughter and wouldn’t be complete without her calling out her signature “Garry”. Iva always gave the best back scratches.
Iva Wood, age 72, passed away at 5:56pm on Saturday; March 13th, 2021 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by her husband: Garry; daughter: Sharron Hollabaugh; brother: Charles Taylor; and a sister: Era “Cookie” Taylor.
To cherish her memory, Iva, leaves two daughters: Linda (Ward) Braizer and Tammy (Michael) Eppenbrock; son: Garry (Sara) Wood; sister: Judy (Leroy) Poleschuk; brother: Thomas (Margaret) Taylor, eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
