Obituary of Gene L Laney

Gene L. Laney was born on April 26, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio. He was one of eight children born from the union of Floyd and Mary (Cutway) Laney.  Gene was raised in Toledo and graduated from Waite High School.

After spending two years serving our country in the United States Army, he was honorably discharged in 1953.   In 1955, Gene, was joined in marriage to Nancy Jean Blake.   Together the couple had one daughter, sadly Nancy passed away in 2020. 

Gene was employed as a mill operator in 1960 at Dundee Cement Company until retiring in 1995.

In 1962, Gene moved his family from Toledo to Dundee.  Gene became well known throughout community due to his immense involvement as a proud veteran.   He was a past Post Commander of the American Legion Post 72 and a member of Dundee Michigan Veterans Club, where he enjoyed meeting up with his friends and helping with fish fry’s and marching in parades.  Gene also served in the Honor Guard and was involved in the 40 & 8.

Gene L. Laney, age 90, passed away in his home on Saturday, March 13, 2021.  His passing was preceded by his parents; wife:  Nancy; and six siblings: Ralph Laney, Clarence Laney, Betty Phieffer, Elaine Ciaciuch June Snyder, and Kenneth Laney.

To cherish his memory, Gene leaves his daughter: Kris (Fred) Rood; one brother:  Tom Laney; grandchildren: Michael (Danni) Haskins and Garrett Haskins, and six great-grandchildren:  Tyler Haskins, Griffin Haskins, Michael Haskins, Tatum Haskins, Sarah Beaushaw, and Joseph Beaushaw.

Friends may gather at 11:00am on Friday; March 19, 2021 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee, Michigan.   Graveside services will be under the auspices of Dundee Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.   Merkle Funeral Service, Dundee; 297 Tecumseh St, Dundee, Michigan 48131 (734) 529-3156 has been entrusted with his care.
