Samaria Marie Hensley was born in Happy Top, Kentucky on January 27, 1923. She was born from the union of the late Dempsey Hensley and the late Nancy (Howard) Hensley. In the 1940's, Marie came to Michigan to start a new life. Marie was an extremely hard worker. For more than twenty years she was employed as a concierge for The Monroe Club. Marie could be stubborn but she was always funny. She loved spending time with her family, and delighted in holiday gatherings, Christmas being her favorite. When she wasn't working, Marie's hobbies included baking, cooking, gardening flowers, playing the guitar, and traveling the nation. Her favorite foods were chicken wings, McDonalds Biscuits, and peanut butter cookies. Marie always took special care when it came to her appearance. She dressed for success and enjoyed wearing hats. She made the needs of others her first priority and had a true passion for life. Marie was an active member of the North Monroe Street Church of God serving with the senior choir, Ladies Auxiliary, and making food for many functions over the years. She daily read her Bible especially enjoying the book of Psalms. Marie, age 91 of Monroe, passed away at home on Saturday, February 8, 2014.
