Obituary of Geraldine Billock
Geraldine Eblen, was born on November 29, 1931, in Monroe, Michigan. She was one of three children born from the union of the late Marvin and Ruth (Thornsberry) Eblen. Geraldine attended school at Monroe High School and would graduate in 1949. Shortly after graduation, she would marry her one and only true love, Stanley Billock, at Saint Joseph Church in Monroe. Together, they had three children. Unfortunately, Stanley, passed away on June 24, 1988.
With a passion for life, Geraldine loved to capture the world’s beauty in her travels. She had visited Niagara Falls, Mackinaw Island and California.
Geraldine was blessed with the gift of helping others. She spent fifteen years volunteering at Mercy Memorial Hospital in radiology and the I.C.U., fifteen years volunteering for the Heartbeat of Monroe, where she was also a board member, and 4 years volunteering at the River Raisin Centre for the Arts. Geraldine had lifetime memberships with the Monroe Quilting Guild and Frenchtown Senior Citizens. She was also a member of the National Council of Catholic Women and the Prime Timers, out of Lewis Avenue Baptist Church.
When Geraldine took the time to sit still, she loved spending it quilting, crocheting, sewing or knitting. It fulfilled her heart to make a wedding gown for Lynda’s wedding and a suit for Matt. She had also made pillows to share with those that she so dearly loved.
Geraldine Billock, age 89, of Monroe, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Promedica Regional Hospital. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by two infant children: Allen Billock and Dennis Billock; a sister: Ilene Gartee; and a brother: Ronnie Eblen
To cherish her memory, she leaves one daughter: Lynda Billock; two grandchildren: Matt (Amy) Vollmer, Nick Vollmer; and two great grandchildren; Ann Vollmer and Abby Vollmer.
Friends may gather on Monday, January 4, 2021 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185 where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. She will lie in state from 10:00am until Mass at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Saint Michael the Archangel Church at 502 West Front Street. Entombment will take place at 9am on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Saint Joseph Cemetery 909 North Monroe Street.
