Obituary of Deborah Mackey

Deborah Jean Carr was born on January 25, 1958 in Lincoln Nebraska. She was born from the union of James and Catherine (Brooks) Carr. Debbie would attend and graduate from Monroe high school in 1976. On March 19, 1977, Debbie would marry the love of her life, James Mackey, in Monroe, Michigan.

Debbie’s home library was joyfully filled with many books including those from Janet Evanovich as she relished reading anything this author wrote. Debbie was very talented in calligraphy, in fact, she would donate her beautiful, homemade cards to the Monroe Senior Center.  As an owner of a blue 1964 Ford Galaxy 500, Debbie was remotely involved in a local car show club called “Good Time Cruisers”.

Debbie Jean Mackey, age 62, of Monroe, passed away on Thursday December 17, 2020 at 6:07pm, at her home, surrounded by her husband and two sisters. In addition to her passing, she is preceded by her parents and one nephew: Brian Carr.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband: James “Jim” Mackey; siblings: Michael Carr, Theresa (Ben) Abalos, Joseph (Jessie) Carr, Timothy (Diane) Carr, DeeDee (Troy) Trent, Kellie (Tim) Begley and Kassie (Rick) Nipper; stepdad Lee “Curley” Stahl; many loved, adored, and admired nieces and nephews. She also had many dogs over the years that she boasted had taught her so much in life.

Family and friends may gather Monday, December 21, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until the Celebration of Her Life at 6:00 p.m.  at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161, 734-241-7070.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the State of Michigan’s mandates, guests will be limited in number, face coverings are required for entry and no food or beverages will be permitted inside the building.
