Obituary of Rayma Jean Akins
Rayma (“Raymie”) Jean Allen was born in Wise County, Virginia on April 2, 1948. She was the daughter of the late Emeline (Allen) Marshall. She moved to Michigan when she was a teenager.
Rayma married Lonnie L. Akins on February 14, 1993. Between the two, the couple blended their family of seven children. Rayma was employed by the Chrysler Corporation at the Trenton Engine Plant for nine years. Her passion, however, first and foremost was to her family, and she cared for many as a homemaker. Rayma was very hospitable, often hosting and sharing meals with family and friends. In addition to spending time with her family, Rayma enjoyed traveling, photography and gardening. When she lived in Florida, she was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10164 serving as Past President and Secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Raymie loved Jesus and was a devoted member of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church. She generously shared her faith, time, and talents with others. Throughout her life, she was blessed to photograph and catalog countless baptisms, graduations, weddings and events. She enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation, including her own family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren from behind the lens.
Raymie, age 72, of Monroe was called from this life into eternal glory at 11:06 p.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2020. Her passing was preceded by her mother and several siblings.
To cherish her memory she leaves her beloved husband of twenty-seven years: Lonnie L. Akins of Monroe; seven loving children: Timothy "Scott" Stevens of Taylor, Jimmy Stevens of Westland, Beth Bentley (Josh) of Carleton, Michelle Baumann of Monroe, Candace "Candi" Akins of Sylvania, Ohio, Amber (Matthew) Branum of Houston, Texas, and Heather Savage (Jim) of Sylvania, Ohio; two sisters: Frances "Penny" Hunsaker of Auxier, Kentucky and Ann Adkins (Ronnie) of Trenton; one brother: Jerry Allen of Betsey Lane, Kentucky; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and countless others that she loved as her own.
