Obituary of James Gaylord Sweeney
James Gaylord Sweeney was born September 30, 1947 in Maybee, Michigan. He was one of four children born from the union of Gaylord and Lillian (Richmier) Sweeney. Jim would meet the love of his life: the former Jerry Tomich. On August 26, 1972, the couple would tie the knot in Carleton. This happy union would be blessed with the birth of one son: Michael.
Jim worked at Stoneco in Maybee for forty-three years as an end loader operator. He proudly served as a volunteer Fire Fighter for Exeter Township Fire Department in Scofield for over twenty years. Jim’s hobbies were bothering his wife, Jerry, John Deere and Cougars. Jim was very proud of having a competition blue 1970 Cougar Eliminator, complete with racing stripes. He also loved John Deere tractors. For many years, he pulled a float in the Ida Christmas Parade.
He had other interests outside of work. He was always fixing something or helping someone. Jim was very meticulous about caring for his and his mother in law’s lawns. He made sure their lawns were the best-looking ones around.
