Obituary of Douglas George Morris
Douglas George Morris, 65, of Monroe, passed away at home on December 7, 2020, after a long illness and under the care of Hospice with his family by his side. Doug was born May 3, 1955 in Monroe, the son of George Reisig Morris and Dorothy Mae (Wright) Morris. He was baptized at St. Charles Church and attended school in Newport, Monroe, Romeo and Livonia, Michigan.
From an early age Doug had boundless energy and an innate curiosity to see how things worked, spending many hours working side by side with his dad in the garage, “tinkering”. This led to his future career as an exceptionally talented auto & small engine mechanic, with clients in Michigan, California and Tennessee. Doug was an avid motorcycle rider, always on the go, with too many bikes over the years to even count. When he did take time to slow down, it was to relax with friends, usually in one of many local dining spots.
Doug was also a talented musician and an accomplished drummer. As a young adult while living in California, he was mentored by Carli Munoz, keyboardist for The Beach Boys. Later in life he returned to his musical roots, adding guitar to his repertoire.
Without a doubt, Doug’s most cherished times in life were those spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed every moment with them, whether it was just quiet time at home or trips to Cedar Point. A born daredevil, it wasn’t uncommon for Doug to “encourage” his grandkids to ride his favorite rides.
Doug was preceded in death by both of his parents George and Dorothy Morris, and one nephew: Matthew Morris. To cherish his memory, Doug leaves a daughter: Teisha (Brandon) Keister; two sisters: Rebecca Navarre and Janet Morris; two brothers: Timothy (Janice) Morris and Patrick (Tami) Morris; three grandchildren: Chloe, Ayden and Tristen; nieces and nephews: Marie Navarre, Claire Navarre, Christopher Morris, Ashley (Josh) Runals and Alex Wellhousen.
Due to COVID and Doug’s wishes, a memorial service will be held in the summer. Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe:2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185 was entrusted with his care.
