Obituary of Sylvia Lynn Mayes
Sylvia Lynn (Revard) Mayes was born in Monroe, Michigan on May 18, 1963. She was the youngest of seven children born from the union of Carl and Eleanor (Gaetani) Revard. Sylvia was a graduate of Monroe High School. On April 13, 1994, she married the love of her life, Richard W. Mayes II. In 1995 the couple were blessed with a son, Dakota, who would eventually become his mother’s consummate caregiver after his father’s passing.
Sylvia had been employed at TCBY Yogurt shop and Kmart in Monroe. Most recently, she worked at Beaches Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide. Also, a talented artist, Sylvia used her drawing skills to recreate Disney characters onto wooden cutouts as well as vehicles for the demolition derby. Along with the teamwork of her husband, they also built custom furniture together when the inspiration arose. Sylvia was an excellent cook, specializing in Italian cuisine.
Sylvia Lynn Mayes, age 57, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2020 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. She had been in declining health for many years and seriously ill the previous few weeks. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by her husband of twenty-four years, Richard; and two brothers, Joe Revard and Bruce Revard.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her only son Dakota Mayes (fiancé Melissa Jarvis); siblings, Beverly (David) Mushing, Roxanne (The late Ronald) Hoffman, Paul Revard and Gerald (Brancy) Revard of Tennessee; many nieces and nephews; best friend, Kim; and her beloved four legged companion, Black Lab, Lily.
