Obituary of Dorothy Sue Woods

Dorothy Sue Hughes was born on December 5, 1941 in Lancer, Kentucky. She was one of six children born from the union of John Harland and Susie Mae (Meade) Hughes. Dorothy would meet Joe Woods and marry him in Clintwood, Virginia on December 28, 1958. The couple would be blessed with two children.

Above anything, Dorothy loved her family. Being a stay at home mom to provide a well-kept home and a hot home cooked meal on the table for her family was a time in her life she cherished. Dorothy’s family declared her to be “the best cook”.  Her fried chicken, green beans & potatoes and chicken and dumplings were a few of her best dishes that were a crowd favorite. Dorothy was affectionately called “NeNe” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  When she was old enough to get grey hair, Joe would refer to her beautiful hair as a “cotton tip”.

Dorothy was very strong in her faith. She attended services at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church faithfully. This is also where she would assist with preparing church dinners. Dorothy would help anyone who needed it, in any way possible.

Dorothy was an avid collector of birdhouses and in her quiet time, she would display her talents in making quilts and doilies for her friends and family members. She also loved to paint.
