Obituary of Twila Joyce Shoemaker

Twila Joyce Stevens was born in Deerfield, Michigan on June 26, 1933.   She was one of seven children born from the union of the late Cyrene Stevens and Pearl (Simpson) Stevens.   Twila attended Deerfield Schools graduating from high school with the Class of 1952.

In her early years, Twila was employed by Revco.   She would marry the love of her life, Dwight L. Shoemaker, on December 1, 1956 at the Tecumseh Lower Light Church.   The couple would be blessed with the birth of three daughters and Twila would care for the needs of her husband and girls as a homemaker.   Later she would take employment with Deerfield Public Schools.   She worked for twenty-five years mostly at the elementary school as a teacher’s aide although she helped in many other capacities.

Twila and Dwight loved Southern Gospel and especially the Gaithers.  They enjoyed attending concerts, camping, and cruises.   Each Autumn they looked forward to taking a fall color tour.   Always a wonderful mother, Twila delighted in the time that she would spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She prayed for her children and friends daily, leaving them a legacy of hope and faith.

Twila Joyce Shoemaker, age 87, of Summerfield Township was called to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.  She was under the care of ProMedica Monroe Hospice.   In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by her loving husband, Dwight Shoemaker; three sisters:  Muriel Stevens, Jesse Kneal, and Rena Kidman; three brothers:  Nello Stevens, Milo Stevens, and Victor Stevens; and a grandson:  Steven K. Shoemaker.

To cherish her memory she leaves three daughters:  Delight Shoemaker, Jeanne (Axel) Saren, and Crystal Cornoyer; three grandchildren:  Ryan (Samantha) Cornoyer, Clayton (Autumn) Saren, and Victoria (Tyler) Fall; and five great grandchildren:  Jaydan, Chase, Madison, Peyton, and Juniper.
