Obituary of Charles Dean Rooks
Charles Dean Rooks was born September 24, 1943 in Aberdeen, Mississippi. He grew up in a house with four other siblings. Charles left Baker High School, Columbus Georgia in 1961 and enlisted in the Airforce to defend our great nation. Once he served our country in battle, he would enroll in college.
Charles would soon meet and marry the love of his life: Marie McLarky. After living in Southgate, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri, they would eventually call Carleton home. Charles would remain in Carleton, even after the untimely passing of his wife.
Charles recently enjoyed floating a bobber on waters near Pointe Mouillee State Game Area and in the Riverbanks of Alabama, specifically from his sister’s property, when he visited her.
Charles was very passionate about collecting. He had an extensive collection of coins as well as guns and knives. He began accumulating Indian artifacts, when he discovered his grandmother was a full-blooded Native American from the Creek Tribe.
Having been born with talented hands, Charles had a passion to repair and restore old cars. He was very knowledgeable about the classic cars; he could name a car type and its year just by sight. His familiarity with these cars influenced him to attend the Classic Car Shows, and he would often travel many miles to be present at a show.
Charles was an avid fan of NASCAR. He looked forward to attending the Daytona 500 and he was present for some of the most memorable races. He always rooted for Dale Earnhardt, Sr., driving the #3 car. He loved car racing so much that he would purchase tickets to the Indianapolis 500, in advance, just so he could confidently secure a seat to sit in the stands.
Charles would exercise his brain by completing crossword puzzles. In fact, he would purchase various local newspapers just so he could do the puzzles.
Charles Dean Rooks, age 76, of Carleton passed suddenly at ProMedica Toledo Hospital, Toledo, Ohio on Wednesday August 12, 2020. In addition to his passing, he is preceded by his wife: Marie; his parents and one brother: Paskal Eugene Rooks.
To cherish his memory, Charles leaves two sisters: Brenda (the late John) Sponaugle of Warner Robins, Georgia and Rita (the late Van) Seagle of Hokes Bluff, Alabama and one brother: Carl (Cindy) Hamilton of Newton, Alabama; four nieces and nephews; a longtime special friend: Susan Feagane and one German Shepherd: Car, short for Carnivore.
