Eulean Addie York was born in Kettle Island, KY on April 26, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Clifford and Delana Ellison. Eulean moved from Kentucky to Monroe with her family at age ten. She attended Monroe Public Schools. Eulean married Charles York on December 31, 1949. She was employed by Holiday Inn for twenty years, retiring in 1997. They had four daughters: Monica (Mike) Easter of Monroe, Delana (Paul) Gessner of Monroe, Sharon Moore of Monroe and Tammy (Steve) Miller of Westland. Eulean passed away Sunday, December 29 at Regency at Canton Nursing Center. In addition to her daughters, Eulean is survived by: two sisters: Margie Jones of LaFollette, Tennessee and Millie (Mart) Ridner of South Haven, Michigan; six grandchildren: Chuck McGowan of Monroe; Nicole (Bart) Fannin of Chelsea, Lisa Moore of Monroe, Chad Moore of Monroe, Angie Gessner of Monroe and Stephanie Miller of Westland; three great-grandchildren: Ryan, Jordan and Niko. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles, two brothers: J.C.Ellison and Cecil Thomas; and a son-in-law, Lawrence E. Moore, Jr. Friends may gather from 1pm until 6pm on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service at 2442 N. Monroe Street. 734-384-5185. A celebration of Eulean's life will be held at 6PM on Thursday, January 2 also at Merkle Funeral Service with Bart Fannin officiating. Memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
