Jose Jimenez

Obituary of Jose G. Jimenez

Jose G. Jimenez was born in Rivera, Texas on August 29, 1923.  He was one of fifteen children from the union of Enrique and Lasara Jimenez.   Jose enlisted at just seventeen in the United States Army.   He would proudly and honorably serve his country during World War II from 1942-1946.   Jose often enjoyed sharing stories about his military exploits.

As a young man, Jose worked in Kingsville, Texas at the King Ranch, the largest ranch in the United States.   He would later take employment with General Motors for nineteen years.   After his retirement, from the automotive industry, he would open a bar named “Blondie’s Bar”, named after his wife for her beautiful blonde locks.   This position was quite fitting for Jose, since he was a people person and loved to meet new people and hear their stories.

Whenever, Jose went out he would always be seen in his signature outfit, a short sleeve button up shirt, tucked in his pants with a belt.   A self-proclaimed “lady’s man”, Jose would often spray multiple scents of women’s cologne on his body when visiting department stores.   He was on the go and enjoyed long car rides.   With a love for going out to eat, the particular destination was never important, but his journey certainly would conclude at a restaurant, with Los Gallanas in Detroit being his favorite.

Jose liked to watch black & white movies in his free time.   He always enjoyed visitors, and If he knew they were coming a coffee from McDonalds was requested.   Not being afraid of work, Jose was employed well into his “Golden Years”.   At 89, he was greeter at Golden Coral in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and then at 90, worked for McDonald’s in Monroe.   He enjoyed telling jokes and often looked forward to lively poker games and taking his chances at bingo while being a resident at Oasis of Monroe.

Jose G. Jimenez, age 96, passed away at 1:55pm on Friday; February 21, 2020 at Oasis of Monroe.   In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by one son:  Oscar Jimenez and Maria Jimenez, whom he affectionately called his wife, even though they were divorced.

To cherish his memory, Jose leaves a daughter:  Maria (Orville) Johnson of Newport; two sons: Jose Jimenez, Jr. of Farmington Hills, and Hector Jimenez, of Louisville, Kentucky; five grandchildren:  Jamie Johnson, Tina (Nick) Kannawin, Jessica (Greg) Russman, Jason Hatcher, and Justin (Tonia) Jimenez; eleven great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
