Sharon Kaufman

Obituary of Sharon Denise Kaufman

Sharon Denise Driggett was born in Monroe on December 15, 1954.   She was one of six children born to the late Harry and Marilyn (Allen) Driggett.   She was a 1973 graduate of Airport High School.

Sharon married the love of her life, Darrell Kaufman, in Monroe on May 25, 1985.  Together they raised three beautiful daughters.  By nature, Sharon was a caregiver.   Somehow, she always put other’s ahead of herself, and found time to balance the needs of Darrell and the girls, while working outside the home.   Whether at her nursing home position or working as a medical assistant at Oakwood Hospital, serving others was truly her calling.

Sharon had many varied interests, including gardening, sewing, and crocheting.  She loved spending time with her family and camping in Irish Hills or at the KOA campground were favorite destinations.  Sharon knew how to have fun, even doing donuts in the school parking lot while the girls held on for dear life!   An amazing grandmother, she was well-known for her cooking and baking and especially her fudge and sugar cookies.   Sharon looked forward to the annual, extended family pig roast where they would eat, play banjos, and just enjoy each other’s company. Although, she typically did not drink alcohol she often let her hair down sipping straight Jack Daniels at these family events.

Sharon often found solace perusing Thomas Kinkade paintings, completing puzzles, or reading a good Nora Roberts novel.   She enjoyed playing along to “The Price is Right” and “Wheel of Fortune”, and she even appeased Darrell watching “Chicago PD”.   She was quite frugal, knowing not to be wasteful to stretch a dollar.

Sharon Denise Kaufman, age 65, of Newport passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.   In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by three siblings:  Shirley Weeden, Sharlene Miller, and Scott Driggett; a brother-in-law:  Duane Miller; and her precious granddaughter:  Aubree Perry.

To cherish her memory she leaves her husband of thirty-four years, Darrell Kaufman of Newport; three daughters:  Nichole (Hunter) Parriett, Danielle (Robert) Perry, and Jessica Kaufman (Kevin Knuckles); six grandchildren:  Savannah, Lillianna, McKenzie, Jordan, Jaxson and Kamron; two sisters:  Susan Driggett and Sally (Danny) Heinzerling; a brother-in-law:  David Weeden; and her loving four-legged companion, Border Collie:  Abby.
