Obituary of Lois C. Calandra
Lois C. Brabow was born in Detroit on March 28, 1923. She was one of six children born from the late Andrew E. and Florence (Lambert) Brabow. Lois was a 1941 graduate of Southeastern High School.
In February of 1946, she married the love of her life, Joseph S. Calandra. From this union came the birth of two children: Carol Lee and Joseph. For many years, Lois worked as a secretary beginning employment with Western Union and eventually spending many years with Livonia Public Schools.
In 1991, Lois moved from Mesick, Michigan to the Dundee area to be closer to her daughter Carol Lee. Lois attended St. Gabriel Catholic Church. She loved her family immensely and was a wonderful grandmother. She was a self-taught seamstress and crocheter. Lois enjoyed reading, was an excellent speller, and often challenged her mind by playing scrabble. Lois wasn’t one to sit around. She enjoyed going for long drives and visiting the stores. She had a great sense of humor and kept those around her on their toes with her off the cuff wit. Even when her health declined later in life she awed her family with her “Zing”.
Lois C. Calandra, age 95, of Dundee passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Promedica Monroe Regional Hospital. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by husband: Joseph; daughter: Carol Lee C. Anderson; and siblings: Leta Brabow, Gladys Ehele, Andrew Brabow, and infants: Richard and Margaret.
