Obituary of Harry Coleman

Harry William “Bill” Coleman, age 81, of DeSoto, Florida formerly of Dundee passed away August 7, 2018 at Arcadia, Florida. He was born July 5, 1937 in Ann Arbor the son of Harry William and Alice Schaefer Coleman Sr. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Arcadia. Bill grew up on a farm on Day Road in Dundee. As a youth he sold butter, hand churned from the family cow to save his money. From that and two bought registered Holstein heifer calves, that became a 4_H project. This grew into a herd of 50 and at the time of the sale he had them for 17 years. He attended Egypt School, graduated from Dundee High School in 1954. After high school he served 6 years in the Michigan National Guard, reaching the rank of Sergeant. In 1967 he went to work for Ford Motor Co. He retired in 1998 after 30 years employment. He loved animals, trained dogs to drive cattle and watch the gates, and draft horses for pulling. He would love driving his team to the drive up window at McDonalds because he enjoyed the looks he would get! He was a Michigan State fan owning season tickets for football and basketball. He is survived by six children, sons Russell D. Coleman and Harry William (Donna) Coleman III of Milan, daughters Linda (Bill) Kennon of Saline, Cathy (Bob) Percha of Flat Rock, Sandy Hammond of Ypsilanti and Elaine (Bill) Bosch of Hamilton; special friend Carolyn Edwards of Arcadia, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Diane Saenz. Friends may call from 10 AM until 11 AM on Wednesday, August 15,2018 at the Cover Funeral Home, 2197 Tecumseh Street in Dundee. Military graveside services will be held at 11:30 AM at Oak Grove Cemetery in Dundee. Conducting services will be the Dundee Military Veterans Group.
