Obituary of Ronald H. Charter
Ronald H. Charter, 78, of Dundee, Michigan passed away February 19, 2018 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born on December 20, 1939 in Monroe, Michigan to Betty Charter, who passed away due to complications after giving birth. His grandparents, Clarence and Mabel Charter adopted and raised him as their own. Ron graduated from Dundee High School in 1958, where he was a track star and played baseball, basketball, and football. Ron proudly served in the U.S. Navy starting in 1960, serving four years attaining the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. Ron served on multiple ships including his favorite, the USS Waccamaw. He worked 33 years for Ford Motor Company before retiring in 1997. In Ron’s younger years he enjoyed umpiring in the Small Fry Baseball League, fishing, and camping. His most recent hobbies included woodworking, gardening, canning, cooking, reading, and following Michigan sports as he was a diehard University of Michigan fan. Ron married his loving wife of 53 years, Marilyn Spaulding in the Presbyterian Church in Dundee, Michigan on July 11, 1964. They built their home in Dundee and raised four children.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn and children, Michael Charter of Potterville, Michigan; James (Milissa) Charter of Toledo, Ohio; Ronald L. (Paula) Charter of Dundee, Michigan; and Jane (Garry) Gentz of Blissfield, Michigan. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ronald L. (Rachel) Charter II; Kenneth Charter, Colin Nolan-Charter, Megan Charter, Austin Charter, and Adrianna Charter, as well as many extended family and friends whom Ron considered family.
Honoring Ron’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. Cremation has taken place and a private grave side service will be scheduled at a later date.
